An open-faced grilled tomato and Cheeza Pleeza is an elegant ten-minute meal that has a terrific combination of tastes, textures, and smells.

In the summertime, there is nothing better than a fresh tomato sandwich on great bread with sweet tea. It doesn’t matter what part the country you are from, every region will swear that their tomatoes are the best.

This open-faced grilled delight is my favorite way to enjoy summer tomatoes. This is a flavor upgrade with a combination of textures that really pops. This recipe is great with any of the savory Cheeza Pleeza flavors. It depends on the bread but the Five Star Savory Pimento is a nice compliment to tomatoes.  For a spicy kick use the Hatch Green Chili. If you want a tart, dynamic flavor, then try the Greek Holiday. For a more Italian mood use the Pizza or Parmesan Pub Cheeza.

You can use customize this recipe with your choice of bread, cheese or spreads. Personally, my friends have loved the rosemary sourdough or ciabatta bread.

  1. Take a slice of bread and place pesto or mayonnaise on bread. (This is an optional step as the Cheese Pleeza has enough flavor. If you have a thicker slice of bread then this is a good addition. If your bread is thinly sliced then you don’t really need the pesto or added mayonnaise.
  2. Slice tomatoes and place them on the bread, roll or flatbread.
  3. Spread about one tablespoon of Cheeza Pleeza on top of the tomatoes.
  4. Put under a broiler for about a minute or two. Make sure that you watch closely because it can burn quickly.
  5. Place on a plate and garnish with chopped chives, parsley or similar.
